Topcoat
The topcoat is applied on the fibreglass laminate as a decorative, non-stick top layer. The topcoat layer’s most important task is the same as the gelcoat’s, namely that it must protect the fibreglass laminate from penetration of moisture and possible chemicals.
The topcoat is normally applied with a roller or a brush, but can also be sprayed on in the same manner as the gelcoat.
The consumption should be approximately 0.4-0.6 Kg/ m2, which provides a thickness of approximately 0.4-0.7 mm. The topcoat is supplied with an added accelerator. An addition of 1 % MEK peroxide 50 % allows for a geltime of approximately 20 min at 20 °C.
