Formgelcoats

TOOLING GELCOATS

Image of TOOLING GELCOATS

ICOM supplies all types of tooling gelcoats. The most popular tooling gelcoat is our series 935 Hand and 936 Spray. This tried and tested tooling gelcoat is developed from a polyester that has very low styrene emission and very good mechanical properties. The gelcoat should generally be laminated 4 hours after it has been cured. 45 minutes of 2 % ICOM MEKP Peroxan ME 50 LY is calculated before gelling to lamination can begin. (A good peroxide for, among other things, mould building, due to very low water content and, therefore, no pinholes caused by chemical reactions). A finger test is carried out on the lowest and, therefore, most vulnerable areas in the form. A finger test means that no tooling gelcoat staining may occur on the finger after 30 seconds of physical contact.

In addition to the Tooling gelcoat 935 and 936 series, the following are supplied:
1) Complete mould building system for vacuum forming of acrylic
2) Complete mould building system for the building of cultured marble moulds
3) Quick Tooling is recommended for moulds where rapid systems with zero shrinking are required, e.g. properties of moulds for infusion casting for the wind industry and marine/boat building. ICOM Quick Tooling effectively counteracts tensions in the mould and NO stars occur in the tooling gelcoat, even if the mould is used forcefully.
4) Barrier coat prevents fibreglass patterns on the tooling gelcoat
5) ICOM Vinylester is laminated to a skin coat in 1 or 2 layers of 225 g/m2 fine tex fibreglass mats on the gelcoat.
6) ICOM’s special paraffin-free, high gloss Topcoat is used to repair the mould.
